After the events of today’s Classic, attention shifts to the 1,000 Guineas along the Rowley Mile on Sunday afternoon at Newmarket.

A chance is taken on Jane Chapple-Hyame’s Saffron Beach to overturn the Nell Gwyn Stakes with William Haggas’s Sacred.

The latter-mentioned was only three-quarters-of-a-length ahead of the selection at the track in April over the seven furlong trip, and appeared to have a much sweeter run of the race.

The daughter of New Bay didn’t go down without a fight that day and left the impression that the step up in trip may work the oracle, plugging on well again at the end despite being a bit keen in the early stages.

Her course form is solid and she ranks as a big player given her sizeable price.

Santa Barbara has been well supported prior to the feature contest but has only had one career run to date, so perhaps Alcohol Free is the one to beat this weekend.
