Aidan O’Brien’s Bolshoi Ballet was made a second favourite for the Epsom Derby following his victory in the P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday afternoon.
A winner at the track before, the Galileo colt saw off O’reilly back in October – a rival who had earlier won on the card this weekend.
He perhaps disappointed up in trip when sent for a Group 1 at Saint-Cloud at the end of 2020, finishing fifth of seven, but made a winning return as a three-year-old under Ryan Moore as the Classic talk heated up.
Bolshoi Ballet is one of five Ballydoyle contenders who currently top the bill for the Epsom Derby this June.
Fellow Coolmore quarter High Definition, Wembley, Battleground and Van Gogh also feature at the top of the betting for the fourth Classic of the season.
Last year’s renewal was won by Serpentine and Emmet McNamara.
