Here are our team’s three value selections for the final day of the Chester May Festival.
A big-priced outsider in the Chester Cup, Rochester House could build on his third-place finish at Newbury three weeks ago with another respectable effort here.
The five-year-old produced a solid run on his seasonal reappearance, going well and sticking on for a place in the closing stages.
Mark Johnston’s gelding holds some useful form on turf from last season, including a bold effort at 2lb lower in a 2m4f handicap at Glorious Goodwood.
This is a much tougher assignment for Rochester House, but he could prove to be each-way value in this contest.
Green Book has yet to fire under rules, but the four-year-old could register a first success here in the Chester Plate.
He made a promising stable debut for Venetia Williams over hurdles in February, finishing second behind a useful sort.
The gelding has placed several times in testing conditions and he could relish the slightly slower ground and the step up in trip here.
With the King of Chester Franny Norton on board, Green Book could be huge value in this 2m2½f contest.
The final race of the Chester May Festival sees an interesting contender in Potzena, who makes his return to turf here.
Harry Eustace’s gelding has seen his best form come on softer ground, including finishing runner-up at Doncaster over 1m2f in testing conditions back in October.
With a price of 4/1, Potzena could continue his good form with success at Chester this afternoon.
