Albeit it with an inspection due tomorrow morning, the Curragh is hoping to keep this weekend’s Guineas Festival on track and we’ve made our best bet for Saturday’s action.

A previous winner in County Kildare, Glen Shiel is sure to have the ground in his favour and makes his seasonal reappearance across the Irish Sea, with usual pilot Hollie Doyle also heading west.

The 7-year-old stalwart won his first Group 1 at Ascot’s Champions Day when last seen seven months ago, and that was in soft conditions which he will relish in this Saturday.

He was at the track last August and holds solid form over the six-furlong trip, winning four races over this distance last campaign.

Speaking on the Paddock Picks Podcast, Doyle said of her charge: “I’m really looking forward to going over there [the Curragh].

“It’s Glen [Shiel]’s first run back, he’s won over course-and-distance, and he’ll get his ground so I don’t see any reason for him not to run a big race.

“I think he should run well.”
