The final Classic of the flat season gets underway on Saturday, with 10 runners declared in the St Leger at Doncaster.

HURRICANE LANE (5/6) is the odds-on favourite for the contest, after winning four of his five starts this season for Charlie Appleby.

The Frankel colt has claimed success in the Irish Derby and the Grand Prix de Paris, as well as placing in the Epsom Derby behind stablemate Adayar.

The three-year-old’s connections believe the extra distance here shouldn’t cause an issue and he could well land further classic success at Doncaster.

OTTOMAN EMPEROR (15/2) is given his first chance in Group 1 company, after making a rapid rising through the ratings for Johnny Murtagh.

The Excelebration colt is aiming for a five-timer and he landed some black type at the first time of asking in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

He has 9lbs to find on the market favourite, but the three-year-old is still relatively unexposed and could well have more to offer.

Aidan O’Brien sends a quartet of runners across the Irish Sea for the contest, with HIGH DEFINITION (9/1) INTERPRETATION (14/1) SIR LUCAN (20/1) and THE MEDITERRANEAN (22/1) all aiming for classic success for the Ballydoyle trainer.

MOJO STAR (8/1) aims to replicate his Derby effort when finishing second for Richard Hannon, while Andrew Balding’s YOUTH SPIRIT (33/1) is given another crack at the top level after consistent efforts at Goodwood and York.

FERNANDO VICHI (50/1) bounced back to form after a decent effort in the Listed Vinnie Roe Stakes at Leopardstown for Donnacha O’Brien and Ralph Beckett’s SCOPE (50/1) has plenty to prove at this level.
