To mark three years since Enable’s second success on French soil, today’s rewind takes a look back at her battling victory in the Arc at Longchamp in 2018.
John Gosden’s popular recruit had been dominant over the middle distances over the past two seasons, and she made the trip over the English Channel to attempt back-to-back success in the ‘world’s biggest horserace’.
Going off as the odds-on favourite, the Nathaniel filly tracked the leaders in the early stages before being pushed into the lead with two furlongs remaining.
She flew down the home straight and was pressed on in the final 100 yards, with William Haggas’ Sea Of Class beginning to close the gap late on.
But she left her challenge a tad late, as Enable just held on to win by a short neck.
Gosden’s star went on to win five more Grade 1 races before being retired in October 2020.
