Epsom Derby Day is the second and final day of The Epsom Derby Festival that takes place at Epsom Downs Racecourse every June and features The Epsom Derby flat race which offers over £1.6m in prize money.

The Class 2 3YO Handicap

The first race that takes place on Epsom Derby Day at Epsom Downs Racecourse every June is The Class 2 3YO Handicap, beginning at around 14:00.

Exclusively open to horses aged three years old, The Class 2 3YO Handicap is a class 2 handicap flat race that runs 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 17 yards of Epsom Downs Racecourse.

The last time The Class 2 3YO Handicap took place there was a £50,000 prize pool, which was shared between the first four competitors to pass the final post in the following fashion:

1st place – 11/2 Drochaid (GB) – £31,125

2nd place – 9/2 Emenem (GB) – £9,320

3rd place – 4/1 Desert Skyline (IRE) – £4,660

The Princess Elizabeth Stakes

The second race that is run on Day Two of The Epsom Derby Festival at Epsom Downs Racecourse is The Princess Elizabeth Stakes, beginning at around 14:35.

Open to fillies ages three years old and above, The Princess Elizabeth Stakes is a Class 1 flat race that runs 1 mile and 113 yards of Epsom Downs Racecourse.

The Princess Elizabeth Stakes was one of seven races that took place on a rearranged date last time out, offering a prize pool worth half the usual amount. Here’s how the £40,700 purse was split last Summer:

1st place – 9/1 Summer Romance (IRE) – £23,081

2nd place – 10/3 Cloak Of Spirits (IRE) – £8,750

3rd place – 14/1 Rose Of Kildare (IRE) – £4,379

4th place – 9/1 Onassis (IRE) – £2,182

The Diomed Stakes

The Diomed Stakes serves as the third race of The Epson Derby Festival’s Derby Day every June at Epsom Downs Racecourse, beginning at around 15:10.

Open to horses aged three years old and above, The Diomed Stakes is a Class 1 flat race that runs 1 mile and 113 yards of Epsom Downs Racecourse.

The prize pool for The Diomed Stakes was £70,000 last time out in 2019, which was shared proportionately between the first four horses that successfully passed the final post. Here’s how much was assigned to each placement position:

1st place – 4/1 Sovereign Debt (IRE) – £39,697

2nd place – 7/1 Gabrial (IRE) – £15,050

3rd place – 7/2 Oh This Is Us (IRE) – £7,532

4th place – 7/1 Kool Kompany (IRE) – £3,752

The ‘Dash’ Handicap

The fourth race that takes place on Derby Day at Epsom Downs Racecourse during the Epsom Derby Festival is The ‘Dash’ Handicap, beginning at 15:45.

Open to horses aged as young as three years old and above, The ‘Dash’ Handicap is a Class 2 handicap flat race that runs just 5 furlongs of Epsom Downs Racecourse, the shortest race of The Epsom Festival.

A generous purse worth £100,000 was to fight for last time out back in 2019, which was shared between the top-four finishers in the following manner:

3rd place – 9/1 Duke Of Firenze (GB) – £9,270

The Epsom Derby

The fifth and featured race that takes place on Derby Day at Epsom Downs Racecourse for The Epsom Derby Festival is The Epsom Derby, beginning at around 16:30.

Exclusively open to horses aged just three years old, The Epsom Derby is a Class 1 flat race that runs 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 6 yards of Epsom Downs Racecourse.

As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, The Epsom Derby was rescheduled to take place behind closed doors alongside six other races that usually feature at The Epsom Derby Festival. Although the prize pool for this race is usually in excess of £1,600,000, the rearranged edition of the race in 2020 offered a much smaller yet still incredibly generous purse worth £500,000. Here’s how the half a million pounds prize pool was split between this race’s placing horses:

1st place – 25/1 Serpentine (IRE) – £283,550

2nd place – 50/1 Khalifa Sat (IRE) – £107,500

3rd place – 66/1 Amhran Na Bhfiann (IRE) – £53,800

The Class 2 Handicap

The penultimate race that takes place on Day Two of The Epsom Derby Festival at Epsom Downs Racecourse every Summer is The Class 2 Handicap, beginning at around 17:15.

Open to horses aged four years old and above, The Class 2 Handicap is a Class 2 handicap flat race that runs 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 6 yards of Epsom Downs Racecourse.

A share of £40,000 was up for grabs last time out in 2019, which was shared between the first four horses to cross the finish line. Here’s how much was assigned to each placement position:

The last time this race took place, a prize pool worth £40,000 was shared proportionately between the first four horses that successfully passed the final post in the following fashion:
