The Coronation Cup Flat Race is the third race that takes place at Epsom Downs Racecourse for Ladies Day at The Epsom Derby Festival every year.

The Epsom Derby Festival is a fabulous two-day horse racing affair that offers 14 incredible flat races on the first weekend of June every year, including The Epsom Derby and its £1.6 million purse.

It’s not just all about The Derby, though, as The Oaks Stakes, The Surrey Stakes and The Princess Elizabeth Stakes are just a few of the other brilliant races that take place on this thrilling occasion.

About The Race

The Coronation Cup Flat Race is a Class 1 flat race that serves as the third race of Day One at The Epsom Derby Festival every Summer.

Open to horses aged four years old and above, The Coronation Cup Flat Race runs 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 6 yards of Epsom Downs Racecourse, the same distance as The Oaks, and featured nine runners last time out.

The last edition of this race back in 2019 offered a prize pool worth a mighty £444,750, which was split proportionately between the first four competitors that passed the final post. Here’s how much each placement position received:

At The Epsom Derby Festival 2018, The Coronation Cup Flat Race was won by 2/7 strong race-favourite Cracksman, ridden by jockey Frankie Dettori and trained by John Gosden.

33/1 long outsider Salouen finished just a head behind Cracksman in second place, followed by 20/1 outsider Windstoss in third place and 8/1 priced Idaho in fourth.

2017

9/4 race favourite Highland Reel won The Coronation Cup Flat Race at Epsom Downs Racecourse in June 2017, ridden by jockey Ryan Moore and trained by Aidan O’Brien.

9/1 priced Frontiersman finished a length and three-quarters behind Highland Reel in second place, followed by 11/2 priced Hawkbill in third place and 33/1 outsider Elbereth in fourth.

2016
