Alcohol Free continued to impressed in Group 1 company, as the three-year-old dispatched of 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare in the Sussex Stakes on day two of Glorious Goodwood.

Andrew Balding’s new star, who landed success in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, relished the softer conditions in West Sussex and produced another brave performance in top-level company.

The three-year-old was held up in midfield early on, with Oisin Murphy pushing his mount on with two furlongs remaining.

She drew level with Poetic Flare in the final furlong and traded blows with the Dawn Approach colt before pushing in front in the last 100 yards.

The filly kept on well to claim success by a length and three quarters, with Poetic Flare and Snow Lantern finishing behind in second and third.

Last Empire caused an upset in the Oak Tree Stakes, as the mare claimed success on her first start at seven furlongs for Kevin Ryan.

The mare pushed in front in the final furlong and managed to hold off the late advances of Charlie Fellowes’ Onassis to win by half a length.

Highfield Princess ran into third for Jason Hart, while Ralph Beckett’s Lullaby Moon claimed fourth.

Armor impressed in the Molecomb Stakes, as he produced a wicked turn of foot to land success for Richard Hannon.

The two-year-old showed his speed in the final stages, blitzing clear from his rivals to land victory by three and a quarter lengths.

Fearby finished in second for Edward Bethell and Kevin Ryan’s Boonie ran well to claim third.

Nagano’s late challenge paid off with success in the 1m4f Handicap for Roger Varian, while Karl Burke’s Illustrating cleared away in the final stages to win the 5f Fillies’ Conditions Stakes.

Achelois registered a double on the day for Andrew Balding in the 1m2f Handicap and Magical Wish claimed the 7f Handicap to give Richard Hannon a double as well.
