After suffering heartbreak at Newmarket on her previous run in the Falmouth Stakes, Lady Bowthorpe landed a major coup for trainer William Jarvis in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood as the five-year-old mare gave him his first Group 1 victory since 1994.

The daughter of Nathaniel, who had finished second in Group 1 company twice this season, made steady headway with two furlongs remaining, drawing alongside the leading pair of Joan Of Arc and Zeyaadah heading into the final furlong.

Kieran Shoemark kicked his mount on with half a furlong left to run and the mare responded gamely, pulling away from her rivals to claim success by a length and a half.

Zeyaadah ran a cracker to claim second for Roger Varian, while Aidan O’Brien’s Joan Of Arc finished in third.

Asymmetric produced a wicked turn of foot in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes, as he powered past her rivals late on to win by half a length.

Alan King’s colt looked in trouble heading into the final furlong as the field began to engulf her entering the final stages of the contest.

But a strong ride from Martin Harley gave him some confidence, as he launched a late challenge to draw level with the field and get his head in front.

He kept on well and just did enough to hold off his challengers to claim some black type at the second attempt.

Richard Fahey’s Khunan outran his odds of 16/1 to finish second, while Gubbass placed third for Richard Hannon.

Ottoman Emperor produced a career-best performance in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes, after Johnny Murtagh’s colt just did enough to claim success at Goodwood.

The three-year-old pushed into the lead in the final two furlongs and kicked away from the field in the last furlong.
