Haydock hosts a seriously competitive card on Saturday, with two Group 3s and a Listed contest featuring among the seven races scheduled.
The Listed Achilles Stakes gets underway at 2:20, with the Pinnacle Stakes and the John Of Gaunt Stakes following shortly after at 2:55 and 3:30.
The Pinnacle Stakes sees six runners line-up in the Group 3 4yo+ contest for fillies and mares, with CABALETTA (11/8) claiming favouritism currently.
The four-year-old is the only runner in the runner to win over the 1m4f distance as landed the Listed Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes at Newbury last July.
She is stepped back up in trip here and she should be able to bounce back to winning ways in this contest.
LA LUNE (3/1) makes her first start in Grouped company after producing a brave performance in the Nottinghamshire Oaks last month.
Her trainer Henry Candy described his mare as having ‘a big heart’ as she fought off Freyja in the final stages to claim success by half a length at Nottingham.
She has been bumped back up to 1m4f here, but the five-year-old has proven her effectiveness over this trip before as she finished second in the Listed Pontefract Castle Fillies’ Stakes last June.
La Lune does have eight and a half lengths to find on Cabaletta after their meeting at Newbury last season, but Candy’s runner could show further progress after her winning return.
David Simcock’s ORIENTAL MYSTIQUE (10/3) is hoping to land her first victory since November 2019, while SALSADA (9/1) will need to show her stamina over the longer trip for Jedd O’Keefe.
David Elsworth’s WAIT FOR THE LORD (9/1) moves out of handicap company for the first time in five months and former Godolphin recruit NATIONAL TREASURE (33/1) makes only his second start under new trainer Ben Haslam.
An intriguing renewal of the Pinnacle Stakes awaits at Haydock on Saturday
