Kieran Shoemark says that Lady Bowthorpe’s win in the Nassau Stakes was “redemption” for the William Jarvis-trained filly following solid efforts in defeat earlier in the season.
The daughter of Nathaniel strode clear on her first run over ten furlongs after solid efforts at Newbury, Ascot and Newmarket earlier in 2021, securing a well-deserved first top-flight success in Chichester a week ago.
Speaking on the Paddock Picks Podcast, an elated Shoemark said: “I think it’s natural, although a lot of us don’t like to admit it, to envisage winning races.
“She was unlucky in the Falmouth and I felt a little bit disheartened afterwards, I suppose. We didn’t get the rub of the green and I had to switch round, and she came flying home late.
“There was a bit of a sense of redemption when she crossed the line, and a sense of relief.
“It’s a monkey off the back. I’m now a Group 1 winning jockey. Every jockey’s dream growing up is to win one of these big races and competing at the top stage, so it’s a massive achievement and one I’m incredibly proud of.
“Look, I won’t live off it. I’m certainly looking for the next one.”
