To mark three years since Laurens’ fifth Group 1 success, today’s rewind takes a look back at her battling victory in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
Karl Burke’s filly had been majorly impressive in her first two seasons on the track, winning four Group 1 contests as well as placing in the 1000 Guineas.
Making her first start at Newmarket since finishing second in the one-mile classic, she started off behind the leader in the opening stages before pushing in front with five furlongs remaining.
She dictated the pace in front and travelled beautifully down the home straight, slowly dismissing her rivals one by one.
Only Aidan O’Brien’s Happily remained heading into the final furlong, but the mare couldn’t reel her rival in as Laurens held on for success by a head.
Burke’s recruit would claim one more Group 1 success a year later in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville before being retired in October.
