Newmarket: John Leeper | 2:05pm Betway Fairway Stakes (Listed) | Dom’s Pick [+£12.87 profit on £1 stakes for Flat NAP’s]
There’s a cracking card at Newmarket this Saturday to follow up the recent Dante Festival at York and we’ve identified our best bet of the day.
A chance is taken on Ed Dunlop’s beautifully bred John Leeper, who looked the real deal over this trip at Newcastle last time out.
He finished fourth in a hot maiden over seven furlongs but was always bred for this trip and put the field to the sword in the north-east.
These are much deeper waters to encounter now, but he remains with a host of top-level entries for later this season, including the Epsom Derby, and is clearly held in high regard by connections.
The Frankel colt will be partnered by William Buick in Suffolk and not Hollie Doyle, but the Group one winning pilot was full of praise for the three-year-old earlier this week.
She believes he’s “the real deal” and has the ability to go right to the top this season.
