Oaks heroine TUESDAY is the current favourite for the 1m4f contest, with the filly’s connections opting to supplement her for the race.
Aidan O’Brien’s recruit did put up a tough performance against an impressive sort in Emily Upjohn at Epsom earlier in the month, but the daughter of Galileo may have benefitted from her rival’s late start in the stalls.
Tuesday has proven to be consistent over the middle distances this term and with the sex allowance in her favour, she could deliver another big performance in Group 1 company here.
Ralph Beckett’s WESTOVER is her main market rival, with the Frankel colt proving to be effective over today’s trip in recent weeks.
The three-year-old looked beat at one point in the Epsom Derby, but he made up an eye-catching amount of ground late on to run into third and finish two and three-quarter lengths behind the winner Desert Crown.
The colt already has a Group 3 win to his name this season and if he continues to show rapid progress here, he could well be in the mix.
HANNIBAL BARCA ran creditably in Group 1 company last season and he could build on his Gallinule Stakes win here for Joseph O’Brien, while David Menuisier’s LIONEL will need to prove himself on quicker ground after landing some black type at Goodwood in softer conditions.
PIZ BADILE will need to bounce back after finishing 16½ lengths down the field in the Derby for Donnacha O’Brien and Paddy Twomey’s FRENCH CLAIM could hint at some progress after landing third in the Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown last month.
Jim Bolger’s BOUNDLESS OCEAN and Andy Oliver’s Glory Daze complete the line-up in the Irish Derby.
Westover @ 13/8
Glory Daze E/W @ 66/1
