The last week of the Racing League produced plenty of drama in Newcastle, as Team talkSPORT made a ‘miracle’ run in the last six races to become the first-ever champions of the new competition.
Sitting 41 points adrift of the leading Team ThoroughBid, the team in black and grey produced a top-draw performance across the card with all six of their entrants finishing in the top six in all the races on offer.
James Fanshawe’s Second Slip got the team off to a dream start in the opener, justifying favouritism to win by a length and three quarters in the 1m4½f Handicap.
Team Swish kept themselves in the title race after Tregony stormed home in the 1m2f Handicap next, with talkSPORT’s Ace Rothstein finishing fifth.
But it became clear that it would be the black and grey team’s evening after Bonneval claimed the 1m Handicap in a dead heat alongside eToro Racing’s Delgrey Boy.
Team talkSPORT’s two wins also played a part in the Top Jockey standings, as Jack Mitchell rocketed to the top of the table to claim the accolade.
Team Arena got themselves off the foot of the Racing League table thanks to 20/1 shot Firmament landing the 7f Handicap and Saluti running a cracker in the 5f Handicap.
eToro Racing snuck into second place late on after Richard Fahey’s Strike Red claimed success in the 6f Handicap.
