Racing fans are treated to a mix of disciplines at Sandown this weekend, with a flat card taking place on the Friday and a Jumps card following on the Saturday.

The team have taken a look through the first card on offer, picking out their fancies for each race on the card.

Here is Friday’s Mark The Card for Sandown.

Sandown Park Races General
Sandown hosts a Jumps and a Flat meeting over the next two days

1:20 – bet365 Handicap (Class 2)

A wide-open handicap to start off the card at Sandown, with plenty of value scattered across the field.

KIMNGRACE holds a handy mark for his handicap debut and also carries the bonus of a 3lb claimer in the saddle. His form from his last outing at Haydock has come good and he could well get the better of a field that is conceding weight to him all around.

DYNAMIC FORCE could be a decent each-way selection as well if he can rediscover his early career form. He finished third on his last start in novice company and could well relish life in handicaps. Robert Cowell’s recruit could bounce back here and shouldn’t be discredited.

1:50 – bet365 Esher Cup Handicap (Class 2)

Another interesting handicap at Sandown which carries plenty of decent prices.

AL MARMAR could well have more to offer for connections and looks to hold an interesting mark on his first start in handicap company, while WANEES carries some smart form in this race and could well become a threat on his first run over a mile.

2:25 – bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes (Group 3)

A relative weak Group 3 race in terms of runners. Mostahdaf hints at no value in this race whatsoever and it seems a tad risky to back him when he is yet to run over 1m2f. FOXES TALES looks the best value, as he prefers quicker ground and doesn’t carry a penalty in this contest until the favourite.

3:00 – bet365 Mile (Group 2)

Only seven go to post in the bet365 Mile. While Alcohol Free is clear on ratings, the quicker ground will not suit her in the slightest and it could well be worth taking a chance on a couple of others in the field.

Alcohol Free Goodwood
Alcohol Free is the favourite for the bet365 Mile at Sandown

MUTASAABEQ looks the play here, with the Invincible Spirit colt showing some potential over seven furlongs. He is yet to strike in Group company and even today’s distance, but his dam was a 1000 Guineas winner and he is closely related to several 1m winners.

JOHAN holds some each-way value in this contest and has a strong rider in Silvestre De Sousa booked in. Mick Channon’s runner will need to find more to win this but he could well make the frame.

3:35 – bet365 Classic Trial (Group 3)

Another low-price favourite features here at Sandown and while the Appleby/Buick partnership is in flying form, Goldspur could be worth betting against here.

CASH beat a useful sort on his debut, who has since gone on to record success. David Simcock’s colt will relish the good conditions on offer and his pedigree suggests that a step up in trip shouldn’t be an issue.

RIVER THAMES has been given the ‘golden’ draw of Stall 4, which has seen eight of the last 17 runners finish in the top three.

4:10 – Nordoff Robbins Charlie Watts Memorial Fillies’ Novice Stakes (Class 4)

A tough race with plenty of new faces.

EMOTION is an interesting newcomer, with her pedigree looking golden on paper. She is the daughter of Frankel and her dam (Molly Malone) recorded Group 1 success at Longchamp. She is a half-sister to two French middle-distance winners as well, so she could well be one to watch out for on her debut.

FOLLOW THAT STAR looks the each-way bet of the bunch, after being bumped up in trip following her debut over a mile. The three-year-old carries some interesting pedigree, with several relatives striking over the 1m2f distance including her dam (Queen Of The Stars) and her sire (Almanzor). She could show some improvement from her debut and potentially have more in the locker over this trip.

4:40 – Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap (Class 3)

While he did disappoint at Newbury last time out, BOLTHOLE could well be given another opportunity here on his first start over 1m2f. He is related to Group 2 winner Embassy, who struck over this distance, and he could well have more to offer.

AL QAREEM looks a useful sort as well and he may be the one to beat if he can cope with the step up in class and a 5lb rise in the ratings.
