With just over a week to go until the Derby Meeting, the fields are slowly beginning to form for the key Group 1 contests on the Epsom Downs.
Our team have taken a look through the entries and have hunted down some value in the ante-post markets.
Here is our value picks from each of the three main races at the Derby Meeting.
Coronation Cup – Wonderful Tonight (14/1 – bet365)
A highly progressive filly last night, Wonderful Tonight makes her seasonal reappearance in the Coronation Cup with a very sweet price indeed.
She failed to fire on her first two starts under David Menuisier but the daughter of Le Havre claimed her first Group success in the Prix Minerve, winning by three and a half lengths.
After finishing fifth in the Prix Vermeille, the filly sprung into the limelight with two Group 1 victories in two weeks as she claimed both the Prix de Royallieu and the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes in October.
Menuisier’s talent is yet to claim success on better ground, but she will be a key player if the heavens open at Epsom in the coming week.
Wonderful Tonight has proven to stay the distance and she could prove to be huge each-way value in this contest.
The Oaks – Teona (8/1 – bet365 + Sky Bet)
A beautifully bred filly hailing from Roger Varian’s yard, Teona could claim a major success in the third British Classic of the season.
The daughter of Sea The Stars was impressive as a two-year-old, finishing a length behind Sea Empress on her debut last October before bolting clear to win by nine lengths in a maiden stakes three weeks later.
She could manage to finish third in the Musidora Stakes at York two weeks ago, but she got upset in the stall and started late.
However, the three-year-old did well to finish as close as she did and has clear potential to build on.
If Teona is at her best at Epsom, she could well run a big race at 8/1.
The Derby – Third Realm (14/1 – bet365 + William Hill)
Another recruit from Roger Varian’s yard, Third Realm shot into the Derby picture at the beginning of the month after a smart performance in the Lingfield Derby Trial.
The three-year-old had claimed a maiden stakes at Nottingham three weeks previously and he improved further in Listed company, staying on stoutly to win by a length and a quarter from market favourite Adayar.
His trainer stated his excitement on the colt and hopes his owner will consider taking up the entry for the 1m4f Classic at Epsom.
Holding a current price of 14/1, Third Realm could be an undetected threat in this contest.
