Sussex Stakes winner Alcohol Free could miss out on a trip to the York Ebor meeting next week, with connections undecided on whether to take on the promising St Mark’s Basilica in the Juddmonte International next Wednesday.
Andrew Balding’s star filly has landed three Group 1 successes in her career, starting with success in the Cheveley Park Stakes over six furlongs as a two-year-old.
She made the step up to a mile in the 1000 Guineas in May and finished two lengths off the pace in fifth at Newmarket.
The three-year-old bounced back at the first attempt at Royal Ascot, relishing the heavy conditions to win by a length and a half in the Coronation Stakes.
After finishing a close third in the Falmouth Stakes, she delivered a stunning performance at Goodwood when beating 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare in the Sussex Stakes.
Alcohol Free is currently a 14/1 shot for the Juddmonte International ay York but Balding could opt out of stepping her up in trip on that occasion.
She does hold an entry in the Betfair Sprint Cup, which would mean she would be dropped back down to six furlongs for the first time since September.
It is unclear which contest her connections could aim for at this stage, but she would give a respectable performance in either race.
